Backpack Buddies at Judson Baptist Church

At Judson Baptist Church, we are grateful to participate in the Backpack Buddies program—a mission devoted to fighting childhood hunger in our community. This ministry provides nutritious, non-perishable food to children who rely on school meals during the week, ensuring they have enough to eat over the weekends.

How It Works:

  • Schools identify children who may be struggling with food insecurity.
  • Volunteers pack bags filled with nutritious, easy-to-prepare food items.
  • Every Friday, these bags are discreetly distributed to children in need, giving them food security and peace of mind until school resumes.

What’s in a Backpack?

Each bag contains a selection of non-perishable items, such as:

  • Cereal and Pop-Tarts
  • Lasagna and Mac & Cheese
  • Milk and Juice
  • Pudding and Applesauce
  • Raisins and Granola Bars
  • Hot Chocolate Mix

Please note: We do not include any items containing nuts.

Cost & Commitment

We prepare bags based on the number of people who commit to supporting the program at $20 per month or $160 for 8 months. So far, we've been able to maintain the cost at $20 per month, and we hope to continue doing so with your help.

How You Can Help:

  • Donate: Monthly contributions go directly toward food purchases. While we appreciate the thought, gift cards may not be the best fit, as we typically buy in bulk from BJ’s and Sam’s Club.
  • Volunteer: We’re always in need of extra hands! If you’re willing to lend your time and energy, we’d love to have you join us.

Through Backpack Buddies, we have the incredible opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus—ensuring no child in our community goes hungry.
